The US Trade Representative’s “2006 Report to Congress on China’s WTO Compliance” is a once-a-year report required by the US-China Relations Act of 2000. De Amerikaanse handelsvertegenwoordiger van de "2006 Verslag aan het Congres over China's WTO Compliance" is een keer per jaar verslag vereist door de US-China Relations Act van 2000. The eleven pages devoted to agriculture in the 109 page report can be summarized in one word “uncertainty.” Trade agreements, in theory at least, are designed to reduce uncertainty in trade relationships by providing a transparent structure so participants know the rules in advance. De elf pagina's gewijd aan de landbouw in de 109 pagina's tellende verslag kan worden samengevat in een woord "onzekerheid." Handel overeenkomsten, in theorie althans, zijn gericht op het verminderen van de onzekerheid in het handelsverkeer relaties door middel van een transparante structuur, zodat de deelnemers weten wat de regels op voorhand. China has gone in the opposite direction by adding complexity to trading rules. China heeft begeven in de tegengestelde richting door het toevoegen van complexiteit aan regels voor de handel.

Efforts continue to revive the Doha Round of WTO trade policy negotiations. Inspanningen blijven voor de heropleving van de Doha-ronde van de WTO-onderhandelingen handelsbeleid. The potential for a successful outcome of restarted talks continues to rest on market access for agricultural products. De mogelijkheden voor een succesvolle afloop van de gesprekken opnieuw blijft rusten op de markttoegang voor landbouwproducten. A recent paper by Michael Gifford, former chief agricultural trade negotiator for Canada, titled “Unlocking the Doha Round Impasse” released by the International Food & Agricultural Trade Policy Council provides insights on possible resolution of market issues. In een recent document van Michael Gifford, voormalig chef-onderhandelaar voor de handel in landbouwproducten Canada, getiteld "Unlocking de Doha-ronde Impasse" vrijgegeven door de International Food & Agricultural Trade Policy Raad biedt inzichten over mogelijke resolutie van de markt onderwerpen.

The recent announcement from USDA that agricultural imports in fiscal year (FY) 2006, the year that ended on September 30, were $64 billion has again caused comments about imports threatening the food security and food safety of the country. De recente aankondiging van USDA dat agrarische import in het fiscale jaar (FY) 2006, het jaar dat eindigde op 30 september waren $ 64 miljard heeft wederom veroorzaakt opmerkingen over de invoer die bedreigend is voor de voedselzekerheid en voedselveiligheid van het land. National borders are no longer barriers that significantly limit choices for consumers in developed countries. US agricultural exports in fiscal year (FY) 2006, the year that ended on September 30, were a record $68.7 billion, an increase of 9.9 percent over 2005. Amerikaanse export van landbouwproducten in het fiscale jaar (FY) 2006, het jaar dat eindigde op 30 september werd een record $ 68,7 miljard, een stijging van 9,9 procent ten opzichte van 2005. Imports increased by 10.9 percent to a record $64.0 billion. De invoer steeg met 10,9 procent tot een record $ 64,0 miljard. US agricultural exports and imports reflect that the US is part of a world-wide food system as markets respond to consumers’ demands for food and other agricultural products. Amerikaanse export van landbouwproducten en de invoer blijkt dat de VS maakt deel uit van een wereldwijd voedingssysteem als de markten reageren consumenten te voorzien van voedsel en andere agrarische producten.

The recent announcement that the US and Russia have reached agreement in principle on a WTO Bilateral Market Access Agreement for Russia to join the WTO is the latest step in a 12 year process that has had more negative than positive news. De recente aankondiging dat de VS en Rusland hebben in beginsel overeenstemming bereikt over een WTO-Market Access Bilaterale Overeenkomst voor Rusland om toe te treden tot de WTO is de nieuwste stap in een proces dat 12 jaar heeft meer negatieve dan positieve nieuws. The agreement can be viewed as either Russia accepting the disciplines that come with WTO membership or the addition of another member to the WTO that will further weaken efforts to facilitate more trade. De overeenkomst kan worden gezien als Rusland tot aanvaarding van de disciplines die meegeleverd worden met het lidmaatschap van de WTO of de toevoeging van een ander lid van de WTO die verder zullen verzwakken inspanningen om meer handel.
