Kermit the Frog wasn’t talking about farmers when he sang his song on Sesame Street. Yet many of us appreciate his lament because we don’t get enough credit for our environmentally sound practices.
Poland is the Idaho of Europe--the continent’s top producer of spuds. Unfortunately, the nation’s leaders would like to turn back the clock on technology and pretend that modern science can’t give us better potatoes than we have right now. They’re blocking farmers from planting genetically enhanced potatoes and other types of GM crops.

If he had made it another year, he would have outlasted a tenth commander-in-chief.
"I noticed a news headline the other day, ÒBiotech reports spark debate over potential benefits.Ó I discovered two things upon reading the article. 1) Utilization of biotech crops is growing in double digits annually, increasing global productivity substantially, reducing poverty by helping farmers and keeping food affordable, reducing the environmental impacts of farming and contributing to the potential for cost effective biofuels. All backed up by objective evidence. 2) A group called ÒFriends of the EarthÓ will have none of this and take issue with the report line by line; generally backing up their statements with all-to-familiar spin and bluster.
